Many people fear the thought of a root canal, but the reality is that modern dentistry has made root canals pretty convenient and straightforward for patients. Our office uses anesthetic that allows contemporary root canal treatments to have minimal discomfort.
But what is the purpose of a root canal? A root canal is necessary when the living pulp inside your tooth becomes damaged or infected. This can be a very painful condition, and a root canal (also called a pulpectomy) is often the best way to restore the tooth and relieve your pain. If left untreated, the infection can spread throughout your body and lead to serious pain and swelling.
Once the infected and painful tissue is removed, the canals are cleaned and prepared to be filled back up. Your dentist can then proceed to build the tooth up and have a crown placed to protect the tooth and restore a beautiful cosmetic appearance.
If you have dental pain or signs of an infection, please call Jing-Jing Qian DDS right away at (650) 572-8518.
